Redesigned in 1924 by James Braid - the legendary Scottish golfer and architect who also created the magnificent King's Course at Gleneagles.

The Cowal Golf Club presents a superb 18 hole, 6063 yards course (SSS 70), which skillfully exploits the wide variety of natural and typically Scottish features to produce as enjoyable a test of golf as you'll find anywhere.

Driving off from the first tee beside the Clubhouse, there is a gradual incline to the green where you can enjoy a wonderful view down the Firth of Clyde to the Isles of Bute and Arran, and, 55 miles distant, to Ailsa Craig rising out of the sea off the Ayrshire coast at Turnberry.

At the third hole you'll negotiate the wee burn.

The fifth is an excellent 191 yards par 3.

Then round the corner to the sixth and seventh where panoramic views over the Firth to the east and the Cowal hills to the west and north unfold.

From the twelfth you are led gently to the more level but nonetheless most testing part of the course with burns crossing the thirteenth and fifteenth fairways.

On course facilities to sharpen up your play include a chipping and bunkered green and practice area.

In June/July each year Cowal Golf Club hosts a week-long "Festival of Golf" sponsored by Western Ferries (Clyde) Limited. The Festival's schedule for 2009 can be viewed on the Events calendar (please click above).
